In 1999, Lauri J. Stock and Mattheus E. Stephens became law partners, and later started the law firm of Stock Stephens, LLP. Since the partnership’s inception, they have employed their over forty years of combined experience to provide the highest quality of service to the diverse communities of the San Diego and outlying areas. In 2009, Stock Stephens was recognized by the Greater San Diego Business Association for years of dedicated commitment to important issues and ongoing community service, and was honored with the Association’s first annual Business of the Year Award. The firm also received a Top Employer nomination as part of the Workplace Excellence Awards sponsored by the San Diego Society for Human Resource Management.
Attorney Stephens is perhaps best known for his involvement in the ongoing Boy Scouts of America litigation, the California Marriage initiative, and the recent case against the San Diego Community College District regarding issues of gender equity. As in those cases, much of Mr. Stephens’ work focuses on the battle to end discrimination on every level, and the defense of our civil and personal liberties. He divides his time outside the office between roles as Lecturer at UCSD, Civil Service Commission volunteer and active supporter of the LGBT Community Center, among others.
Attorney Stock similarly devotes much of her spare time to public service endeavors. She serves as a settlement judge, and is actively involved with the many important local and global projects of her local Rotary club , of which she is a charter member and past president. Also a prolific athlete, she has garnered medals and awards across the country and abroad for her participation in various road races, triathlons, and three Gay Games.
Celebrating a decade of award-winning service to its clients and to the communities that make San Diego one of America’s finest cities, the Stock Stephens team looks with great pride and high expectations to the future.
